Solidarity with the PSAC strike!
The elected executive of CUPE Local 233 would like to extend our heartfelt support and solidarity to the 155,000 members of PSAC launching strike action today.
Our Local of 111 custodians, maintenance, and trades workers have a special reason to extend our support today. This past Monday, April 17, 2023, we began our own full-scale strike against our employer, Toronto Metropolitan University. Like PSAC, the issue of a fair wage increase in the face of continuing price inflation has been central. Our employer has refused this, offering just 9.5% over three years – about the same as the 9% over three years wage offer from Treasury Board that the PSAC has just rejected. PSAC is seeking an increase of 13.5% over three years. We agree! These wage offers are clearly not good enough in times of such huge cost of living increases.
This is why our message of solidarity is especially clear and sharp today — it is being sent straight from our picket lines on the TMU campus. CUPE Local 233 stands with the PSAC! Decent wages now!
In solidarity,
CUPE Local 233 Executive Committee
